Erectile dysfunction is the inability to have and keep an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. Having problems with erections over time is not necessarily a cause for concern.
· Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is defined by the difficulty of achieving and keeping an erection. It can be embarrassing to talk about it. It has been reported that more than half of men between the ages of 40 and 70 suffer from some form of erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil is used to treat men with erectile dysfunction (also called sexual impotence).
· Sildenafil belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. These drugs prevent an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5 from working too quickly. The penis is one of the active sites for this enzyme. Sildenafil helps maintain an erection after the penis is stroked. Without physical action on the penis, such as that which occurs during intercourse, sildenafil will not work to cause an erection.
· Sildenafil Citrate is also used in men and women to treat symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension. This is a type of high blood pressure that occurs between the heart and lungs. When high blood pressure occurs in the lungs, the heart has to work harder to pump enough blood to the lungs. Sildenafil acts on the PDE5 enzyme in the lungs to dilate blood vessels. This will increase the blood supply to the lungs and reduce the workload of the heart.
· What are erectile dysfunction drugs?
· There are many generic medications used to treat erectile dysfunction. Each drug works differently, but they all improve sexual performance by stimulating blood flow to the penis. The most common erectile dysfunction drugs belong to a group known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. They block certain enzyme activities that lead to erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil (Viagra). This medication is most effective when taken on an empty stomach an hour before intercourse. It is effective for four to five hours or more if you have mild to moderate erectile dysfunction.
· Vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn). This medication is also most effective when taken an hour before sex and can be taken with or without food. A high-fat meal may prevent it from being absorbed as quickly. Vardenafil is effective for four to five hours or longer if you have mild to moderate erectile dysfunction. Newer forms of tablets that dissolve on the tongue may work faster than the tablets you swallow. Vardenafil is an oral medication and a PDE5 inhibitor. Need to drink 60 minutes before sex.
· Tadalafil (Cialis). This medication is taken with or without food about one to two hours before sexual intercourse. It is effective for up to 36 hours. It can be taken in small doses each day or larger doses as needed. Tadalafil is an oral medication that increases blood flow throughout your body. Take this PDE5 inhibitor about 30 minutes before sex, no more than once a day.
· Avanafil (Stendra). This medication is taken with or without food 30 minutes before sex, depending on the dose. It lasts up to six hours. Avanafil is an oral medication and a PDE5 inhibitor. Used within 15 minutes after sex. Alprostadil (Caverject, Edex, and MUSE) is a solution for injection and penile insertion.
· Alprostadil is a medicine for men to treat ED (erectile dysfunction). It is available by prescription only. This medicine causes blood vessels to dilate. This stimulates blood flow throughout the body, including the penis, helping men with erectile dysfunction achieve an erection.
